Mukharvind: A testimonial of divinity

Mukharvind is a temple located in the village Jatipura in Goverdhan that lies at a distance of around 28 km from Mathura. In Goverdhan, the sacred hill called Shri Giriraj is worshipped by Hindus and taken-care by the Vallabh Sampradaya. Mukharvind temple is at the base of Goverdhan hill popularly known as the place of appearance of Lord Giriraj.

An Aesthetic face of faith and devotion:

The temple is located on the northern bank of Mansi-Ganga. It is the lotus face (Mukharvind) of Goverdhan. Goverdhan’s form is that of sitting cow. His hind part is puchari or the puchari ka lota. He has turned his neck to place his lotus face near his stomach, which is the town of goverdhan. His two eyes are Radha-kund and Shyam-kund. This is a beautiful temple of Giriraj’s lotus face at jatipura called Mukharbind.

Mukharvind temple is a big rock formed God located at the base of Goverdhan hill. This sacred place is also known as shringar sthali. The place is divine and witnesses several other sacred places of Saints nearby. To name a few are Shri Gusainji’s tulsi kiyara, Mahaprabhuji’s tulsi kiyara ,Shri Gusainji’s baithakji, Shri Girdharji baithakji, Gokul nath jis temple, Shri Madanmohanji’s temple, Shri Mahaprabhuji’s baithak, Shri Chandramaji’s temple, Dandvati Shila and many others. Every place has it’s own sacred relevance. Many famous Saints did worship these places and even now these places are full of Divine vibrations and energy.

Story behind Lords presence:

Dandvati shila is believed to have been six feet tall when ShreeNathji went to Mewar. Due to the shraap ( curse) given by Pulastya muni to Giriraj Govardhan it reduces in size each day. This Dandvati shila is already in the earth and so the land around it has been dug so that the darshans are visible to the devotees.

According to legends, Shri Krishna left Braj dham and went to Nathdwara for further duties. On request of Gopis and Brijwasis, Shri Krishna decided to come to sleep here for six months. It is considered that Shri Krishna comes to rest here for six months every year, from Vasant Panchmi to Dassehra. After the Sandhya Aarti at his Nathdwara temple, he comes at the Mukharvind Mandir in Shri Govardhan to give Shayan Darshans. During this period, his presence is very live and can be felt by the receptive devotees.

The main offering to the divine deity is milk. People across the world come to worship. Abhishek, a special pooja offered to God to please him, can be done here by the devotee. During festival period, a huge crowd is witnessed. Annakut is organized here. Annakut is a special offering to God just a day after Dipawali.
Hundreds of devotees visit daily and offer milk and flowers to the deity etc.

Divine ritual of Goverdhan:

Many begin their parikrama, from Giriraj Ji Mukharbind Goverdhan. Some people do parikrama walking with a pitcher of milk, with the milk flowing slowly through the pitcher in a stream. This is known as the doodh dhaar parikrama.

SHRI DAANGHATI

Daan Ghati Mandir is reckoned to be one of the two major Hindu temples in Govardhan. The literal meaning of the term Daan Ghati is ‘donation valley’ for. The presiding deity of this popular shrine in Govardhan is manifested in the form of rock which is believed to be degrading into soil by few millimetres every year. However, there is no proven evidence of the same. Situated between Mathura and Kamvana, the temple of Daan Ghati is the starting point for the trail to Parikrama Marg (the road that allows devotees to circle around the Govardhan Hill barefooted).

Mukharvind temple

The temple is located on the northern bank of Mansi-Ganga. It is the lotus face (Mukharvind) of Goverdhan. Goverdhan’s form is that of sitting cow. His hind part is puchari or the puchari ka lota. He has turned his neck to place his lotus face near his stomach, which is the town of goverdhan. His two eyes are Radha-kund and Shyam-kund. This is a beautiful temple of Giriraj’s lotus face at jatipura called Mukharbind. Mukharvind temple is a big rock formed God located at the base of Goverdhan hill.

MANSI GANGA

Mana means "mind" and Ganga refers to the Ganges River. Krishna was once tending the cows with the cowherd boys. Demon Vatsasura came in disguise as a calf and wanted to kill Krishna. Krishna however was aware of him, took him by his hind legs, whipped him around and threw him up into a tree.Because Krishna killed a demon in the shape of a calf, the cowherd boys asked Him to take bath in Ganga in order to purify Himself. Not wanting to leave Vraja, Krishna informed cowherd boys that He would call the river Ganges to appear in Vraja. Krishna entered into meditation and Ganges manifested in front of Him in the form of Manasi-ganga.

KUSUM SAROVAR

One day Shree Radha Rani was plucking flowers in Kusum Garden with her companions. Lord Shyamsundar being disguised in KUSUM SAROVAR the form of gardener utter a shout from a distance, "who are you people to pluck flowers?" All of the associates upon getting frightened ran away here and there and stood at a place. Shree Radha's divine blue cloth got strucked in the garden bush, couldn't run away. One/ two flowers fell down from her hand at hurry. Meanwhile, shyamsundar leaving his gardener appearance came in front of her in original . He freed her blue-cloth from the bush. Shyamsundar picked up the flowers fallen on earth by Radha.

Radha Krishna kund

Shri Radha Kund is the holiest place on Earth and is even considered non-different from Radha Rani. Once Lord Krishna slayed a mighty asura (demon) in the form of a bull, his consort Radha tersely told Krishna to wash off his sins by taking dips in various holy rivers. Krishna laughed it off and struck the ground with his foot whereupon the mighty rivers emerged, welled up and formed a kunda (little water body). Subsequently the Lord bathed in the water to please Radha. The kunda came to be called "Shyam-Kund". Indignant that Krishna used his powers for this, Radha and her girl attendants dug out a kunda with their bangles and filled it with water from “Manasi-Ganga”, another holy kunda at nearby Govardhan. That particular kunda is today's "Radha-Kund" where people come from far and wide to take a dip.

Shrinathji's Temple

Shrinathji's temple is located in Punchari, Govardhan. The shape of Govardhan mountain is similar to that of a peacock and Punchari is considered the tail of Govardhan. Shrinathji appeared in front of Mahaprabhu Shri Vallabhacharya Ji on Govardhan mountain, and Mahaprabhu started the service of Shrinathji by getting the temple constructed. After about 170 years, due to the invasion of the Mughals, Shrinathji was transferred to Nathdwara, located 50 km from Udaipur. The replica of the same Shrinathji is seated in the Shrinathji temple of Punchari. Near to it, is the cave of Shri Raghav Pandit, a great saint of the Gaudiya sect, where he had stayed for a long time and worshipped Shri Radha Krishn. There is a samadhi of Siddha Shri Jagannath Das Baba in the courtyard of the temple. Location : Shrinathji's temple is situated in Punchari, Govardhan, which is situated at a distance of 30 km from Mathura.

Visiting Vrindavan was a life-changing experience for me. The town is a treasure trove of ancient temples and sacred sites associated with Lord Krishna. I was in awe as I explored the famous Banke Bihari Temple, where devotees gather to catch a glimpse of the deity. The Radha Raman Temple was equally captivating, with its exquisite architecture and soothing chants.

My visit to Vrindavan was an enchanting and spiritual experience. The town is steeped in Hindu mythology and is considered one of the holiest places in India. As I walked through the narrow lanes, I could feel a sense of serenity and devotion in the air. The temples were magnificent, adorned with intricate carvings and vibrant colors. Witnessing the evening aarti (prayer ceremony) on the banks of the Yamuna River was truly mesmerizing.

Vrindavan is a hidden gem that transports you to a different world altogether. From the moment I entered the town, I was surrounded by the divine aura and the rhythmic chants of 'Hare Krishna.' The temples were stunning, each with its own unique charm. The ISKCON temple, in particular, left me awe-struck with its grandeur and the melodious kirtans (devotional songs) that filled the air
